Witness Assistance Service

The Witness Assistance Service provides an individual service that supports victims, witnesses and their families throughout their involvement in the criminal justice process. We believe that all victims of crime should be treated with courtesy, respect and dignity and should have access to certain information about their case. These rights are set out in the Director of Public Prosecutions Guidelines for prosecutors and in the Northern Territory Charter for Victims of Crime. WAS staff are based in Darwin, Katherine and Alice Springs and support services in the Local and Supreme Courts, as well as regularly traveling to regional and remote court locations.
